Reason for buying the 206

I've always been into bigger cars. Can't quite put my finger on it, but I guess big gives one the sense of invincibility or perhaps safety, who knows. Anyway, I have previously owned a Proton Perdana (manufactured 1995) and a Honda Accord (manufactured 2004) and upgraded to a SUV in the form of a Mitsubishi Outlander 2.4 Mivec (manufactured 2005) a couple of years ago. I love the sense of sitting higher than your average motorist and the torque of a 2.4 engine is fantastic. The Outlander is also quite rare among the sea of CRVs and Nissan X-Trails and thus stands out quite a bit.

However, with the increasing Kuala Lumpur traffic and the thirst of my Outlander in city conditions, I started looking for a small and economical run around for city driving in December 2008. I first looked at the Myvi, but its steering feel was all but dead. I then checked out the Savvy, but the looks totally put me off. I then stumbled into a Peugeot showroom as my wife was keen to try out the Pug 407. The Pug 407 was brilliant for its price but my wife was put off by the inside view of the very slanted windscreen as it imparred her vision at the bottom of the screen and thus posed a safety issue. She has since got herself a Mazda 3 Sport - Great Car. Coming back to the Peugeot showroom, it was there that I was informed of Naza's 0% financing for the 206. I took the car out for a test drive and promptly put a deposit of RM100.00 for the car. 2 months later I took possession of my Metallic Grey Pug 206.

Save for the almost impossible task of getting a service at Naza's bigger servicing centres, I've had little problems with the Pug. I've gotten so used to its size, nimbleness and easy to use tiptronic 4 speed, that I've been using it quite a bit to my weekend golf game in Mantin.

I've put 20,000 kilometres on the clock and the car still feels solid. There are some small problems but that is for another day.

Before I sign off, let me share a short story. My brother's wife and 2 daughters were back in Malaysia for a month in August last year. They used the Pug for a good three weeks. I am told that the kids loved the car as they could look out of the windows. My brother drives a GM 5.7 litre monster SUV in the Middle East and the little girls view are imparred by the huge doors. They are coming back in July and I am sure they are looking forward to sitting in the 'little' Pug which I've agreed to lend them this morning.

I've created this blog for my Pug 206 (Bestari). I've had it for a year with 20,000 kilometers on the clock. So far so good. Watch this space.
